Formed as one natural atoll with Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll is recoginised as an seperate atoll which offices and governance of its own. The domestic airport of the atoll is in Kaadedhdhoo island. The people of this part of the Maldives speaks a different dialect of Dhivehi is often hard to understand even to locals from other atolls.
